Art Journaling is incorporating visual art images with traditional journal writing. I have been journaling with art since I was 13 years old. I would incorporate ephemeras and doodling in my journal pages. I did not know there was a name for this titillating / fascinating / enchanting / mesmerizing practice of combining journal writing and visual images. Now I know.

When I write, I immerse in a world of my own, of which consists of my random thoughts, dream-scapes, hopes and joys, anger and frustration, my life stories, my imaginations. Journal writing takes me to the paths from delightful memories keeping to digging deep into the unknown. When I create visual images alongside my writing, I feel the freedom to further delve into the subconscious, letting my story unfold itself through the use of color, texture, and imageries. My Art Journal is like my best friend who never judges, she listens to my heart, she sometimes surprises me with insights into the place where my heart was at or where it needed to be. It is a mirror into my soul, while can be challenging to my notion of self, but also giving me great joy and comfort that “I” could just “be”, and that I was never travelling alone.

Mixed Media Art in visual art, refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed (e.g. an artwork on a canvas that combines paint, ink, collage, etc.)

Playing with mixed-media art techniques is one of the most exhilarating and freeing process I have experienced in art making.  when I allow myself to slab layers and layers of paints and materials onto the canvas spontaneously, incorporating or hiding bits and pieces of personal imageries, icons, symbols, and ephemeras – it feels like I am playing a game of “hide and seek” with my viewer – playful, poetic, mischievous, enigmatic all at once.  It makes me feel like I am 7 years old again.

All of my workshops can be customized to suit your special occasion’s theme and brought to your home, office or event location.  I encourage you or your child to participate in active brainstorming with me to create a unique project for your group gathering.  The most important goal of these workshops is to immerse youself in art or craft making and finding joy and magic in the process. You do not need to have any previous art experience or knowledge to be creative, as we are all gifted with our own unique ways to create.
